Quiet Sisters Recovery - Effective 1 October 2026

Plain English: Quiet Sisters Recovery is a mobile-first online family-support app. The app is delivered over the web, while your private writing is designed to stay encrypted on your phone unless you deliberately export it.

What this app is

Quiet Sisters Recovery supports family members, partners and friends affected by another person's addiction. It offers reflections, boundaries, communication examples and self-care tools.

Disclaimer: Quiet Sisters Recovery is a peer-support and educational tool created from lived family experience. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition or mental health disorder. The information provided is not a substitute for professional medical advice, clinical therapy, or emergency medical intervention. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you or someone else is in immediate danger or crisis, please contact local emergency services or a crisis helpline.

Local encrypted data

No Quiet Sisters account is required. Daily resets, the Boundary & Peace Counter, settings and Reality Check journal entries are stored in the browser/app storage on your device.

The app encrypts its private state before storage using Web Crypto. The encryption key is derived from your passcode; the readable passcode itself is not stored by Quiet Sisters Recovery.

Full backups created from Settings are encrypted and require the passcode that protected the app when the backup was created.

Reality Check journal

Reality Check entries are private notes for your own memory and reflection. They are stored inside the same encrypted local app state. They are not automatically uploaded to a server or shared with another person.

Quick Exit

The Quick Exit button immediately locks the app, removes the sensitive route from the address bar and replaces the screen with a neutral local weather page. It is a privacy aid, not a guarantee that another person cannot discover browser history, installed apps, backups or phone activity. Keep your phone screen lock and device security enabled as well.

Background and recent-app privacy

In the web version, when Quiet Sisters loses focus or is sent to the background, the app places a privacy cover over sensitive content and locks the encrypted session. A website cannot prevent screenshots or control the operating system's recent-app preview. The Android wrapper requests secure-window protection in release builds; behaviour may vary by device and Android version.

Emergency privacy reset

The app includes a one-tap emergency privacy reset in Settings. It removes the Quiet Sisters encrypted private state, journal entries, counters and passcode from that device and immediately switches to a neutral screen. The reset is intentionally immediate and cannot be undone without a previously created backup.

Exports

If you deliberately download, print or export a readable record, you control where that file is saved and shared. Store readable exports somewhere private.

External links and support services

The app can open phone numbers and external websites for support services, YouTube searches and weather. Once you leave Quiet Sisters Recovery, the other service's own privacy practices apply.

Hosting and technical requests

The web app is hosted by Netlify. To deliver and protect the site, Netlify may process technical request and usage information under its own privacy practices. See Netlify's Privacy Policy for details. Quiet Sisters Recovery does not intentionally send your typed private entries to a Quiet Sisters cloud journal database; those entries are designed to remain in encrypted storage on your device.

Deleting your data

You can remove individual Reality Check entries, clear daily history, reset your Boundary & Peace starting date, or use Erase local data to remove the app's encrypted local state and passcode from that device.

Because private entries are stored locally on your phone and there is no Quiet Sisters cloud journal account, erased entries cannot be recovered unless you previously made a backup.

Security

Local encryption is an additional privacy layer, not a complete security guarantee. Keep the device protected with its normal screen lock, account security and device encryption.

Age and intended audience

Quiet Sisters Recovery is designed for adults aged 18 and over. It may signpost adults to specialist services such as Nacoa or Alateen when they are supporting a younger person, but the app itself is not designed as a child-facing service. Safeguarding and crisis concerns involving children should be handled with appropriate adult, professional or emergency support.

Changes

If the app's data handling changes, this policy should be updated at the same time so it continues to describe the current build.
